Mildred Margaret (Vieths) Luhman was born on Aug. 6, 1917, to August and Emma (Hinrichs) Vieths in Goodhue County.

Mildred Margaret (Vieths) Luhman was born on Aug. 6, 1917, to August and Emma (Hinrichs) Vieths in Goodhue County.

She was baptized Sept. 23, 1917, at Grace Lutheran Church, rural Goodhue, by Pastor Gerhard Hinnenthal. Her godparents were her two grandmothers, Catherine (Pickenpack) Hinrichs and Margaret (Reese) Vieths. Her earlier school years were at Grace Lutheran Parochial School until the family moved to the Hogsback farm in Belvidere Township in 1926. Mildred then attended school district #32 before going to St. John's Parochial School in rural Goodhue. Mildred was confirmed May 31, 1931, at St. John's by Pastor Weindorf.

Mildred was well known in Red Wing where she had been employed at the Peterson Rug & Drapery Co.

On June 8, 1938, she married H. Raymond Luhman at St. John's in rural Goodhue. Their first two farms were in the Clay Pit area. In September 1947 they purchased their own dairy farm near Bellechester, Minn., where Mildred raised their 12 children.

In March 1984, Mildred and Ray moved to Deer Valley in Belvidere, Minn. Her husband died May 26, 1987, at age 73. Mildred moved back to the home farm June 1996 where she continued to reside until entering Pine Haven Care Center in January 2009.

Mildred was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Goodhue. She truly enjoyed her plants, flower beds, ceramics, crocheting, baking birthday cakes and gingerbread boys, reading her daily devotion books, and treasuring her family and friends.

Mildred is survived by five children, Dean (Marcia) Luhman of Goodhue, Barbara (Wally) Biorn Milow of Zumbrota, Randal Luhman of Zumbrota, Allan (Sherry) Luhman of Lake City, and Jonathan (Lora) Luhman of Goodhue; daughters-in-law Sharon Kay Luhman of Bellechester, Sharen Luhman of Tomah, Wis., and Connie Luhman Albert of Camp Douglas, Wis.; son-in-law Richard Carley of Florida; 33 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; parents; brothers, Maynard Vieths, Luverne Vieths, Alvin Vieths, and Arnold Vieths; sister-in-law Donna (Rasmussen) Vieths; her sons Larris, Raymond, Arlan, Darwin, and Curtis; her daughters Mary Lori Luhman and Suzanne Carley; son-in-law Ronald Biorn; grandsons Chet Luhman and Chad Luhman; and great-grandson Matthew Rickard.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue, with Pastor Andrew Krause officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, and for 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
