Donald C. Jansen, 89, of Red Wing, passed away peacefully on Aug. 27 at the Seminary Nursing Home in Red Wing with family beside him.

Donald C. Jansen, 89, of Red Wing, passed away peacefully on Aug. 27 at the Seminary Nursing Home in Red Wing with family beside him.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing. Friends may call 1 hour prior to service. Rev. Brian Scott will be officiating. Private family burial will be scheduled at a later date.

Don was born Feb. 13, 1923, in Red Wing, to Bernard and May (Kempf) Jansen. He graduated from Red Wing High School in 1941. He joined the Navy in 1943 and was discharged in 1946. During WWII, he was assigned to PT-Torpedo Boat Squadron #13 and proudly served in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Borneo. After discharge, he returned to Red Wing and married Lucille Nagel on Feb. 16, 1946. He worked at Northern States Power Company (Xcel Energy) in Red Wing for more than 38 years, retiring as plant superintendent.

He has been a member of First Lutheran Church, the Masonic Lodge, American Legion, VFW, Golden Kiwanis, Mississippi National Golf Club, Red Wing Yacht Club, and the Red Wing Wildlife League.

Don enjoyed special time and memories with his grandchildren, their spouses, and great-grandchildren, as well as his many friends and time on the river. He loved fishing, hunting, golf, cards, baking, entertaining, and traveling. He will be missed by all of us.

Survivors include his daughter, Kathryn (Richard) Fingarson of St. Cloud, Minn.; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Fingarson of Becker, Minn., and Kristine (Jerome) Nemanich of Sartell, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Abby, Aaron, Anna, and Emma.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucille; and his brother, Bill.

Don's family would like to thank the very special and caring staff at Seminary Home, especially Care West and the Mayo Hospice Program.

Arrangements are being handled by the Cremation Society of Minnesota.

Memorials are preferred to the Red Wing Wildlife League, First Lutheran Church, or donor's choice of charity.
