Helen Marie Ottem, 79, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park in Red Wing.
Helen Marie Ottem, 79, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park in Red Wing.
She was born Aug. 1, 1933, in Ellsworth, Wis., the daughter of Jay W. and Violet Elnora (Swanson) Nelson. Helen grew up in Ellsworth and graduated from Ellsworth High School. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Red Wing where she went to work for ADM for 32 years until her retirement. On March 19, 1955, she married Glenn Oscar Ottem at Bethel Covenant Church in Ellsworth. Glenn died on April 7, 2009.
In her spare time, Helen enjoyed gardening, reading, and her annual trips to the North Shore. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Helen is survived by her children, Steven Ottem of Red Wing, Jay Ottem of Red Wing, and Deanna (Steve) Stellrecht of Welch; grandchildren Kaela, Korbyne, Kamryn, and Keaton; and her siblings Margaret Peterson, Ralph Nelson, and Robert Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; parents; and one brother, Kenneth Nelson.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, with Reverend Lynne Rigg officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service.
