Jake was born Nov. 4, 1926, in Seward, Neb., to Peter G. and Marie (nee Wiegardt) Jacobs. He served as a flight crew mechanic in WWII and later earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Denver. He worked for General Motors as a field service electronics engineer and AC Delco Apollo NASA program. Jake retired from Briggs and Stratton as a materials quality engineer.
Jake has given a lot of himself in serving the community, including First Congregational Church of Wauwatosa, Scout Master Troop #47, Junior Achievement, St. Vincent's Food Program, the Kiwanis Club of Wauwatosa, the American Cancer Society, and pledge drives and auctions for Public Television Channels 10/36. Because he loved to sing, he was a member of several choruses including the Church Street Singers of Wauwatosa, the Brookfield Hills Barber Shop Chorus, Wauwatosa Seniors, and Cudworth Post Men's Chorus. Jake's passion for the Milwaukee Public Museum included volunteering as a docent for nearly 20 years. Jake and Joyce were awarded Milwaukee Public Museum 2009 Volunteers of the Year.
Our family is grateful for the caring Kirkland Crossings staff. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Milwaukee Public Museum appreciated (mpm.edu).
