Janet Freiheit, age 93, of Red Wing, died Thursday, Aug. 2, at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park Care Center.
Janet Freiheit, age 93, of Red Wing, died Thursday, Aug. 2, at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park Care Center.
She was born Nov. 8, 1918, in Chester Township in Wabasha County to William and Eva (Liffrig) Nardinger. She grew up on a farm near Bellechester and attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Bellechester. After her schooling, she worked as a nurse's aid at several area hospitals. On Nov. 28, 1940, she married Glenn Freiheit at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bellechester. They lived in Lake City where Glenn worked at the foundry. They began farming near Goodhue around 1947. They farmed for more than 42 years before moving to Red Wing in 1989. Since 2010 she has resided at St. Brigid's Assisted Living in Red Wing.
Janet was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bellechester. She loved being a homemaker and loved her homes. She enjoyed gardening, picking strawberries, cooking, and baking for family and friends. Never did a guest leave her house without eating something good. She also enjoyed shopping and collecting knick-knacks and gifts for the ones she loved.
She is survived by her two daughters, Betty (Guy) Shoultz of Buffalo and Arleen (Anthony) Holst of Goodhue; four grandchildren, Michael (Lori) Shoultz, Max (Sara) Shoultz, Jason (Amanda) Holst, Jessie Holst; nine great-grandchildren; sister Alice Rusch of Goodhue; brother Floyd (Arvilla) Nardinger of Lake City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn Freiheit; two sisters, Viola Roemer and Evelyn Rusch; four brothers, John, Walter, Wilber, and Lloyd Nardinger; two infant siblings, Florence and Adeline Nardinger.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bellechester with Father Bruce Peterson officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery in Bellechester. Visitation will be for 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
