George Louis Egbert, 95, a former resident of Red Wing, passed away peacefully on July 5 in Carson City, Nev., surrounded by family members.
George Louis Egbert, 95, a former resident of Red Wing, passed away peacefully on July 5 in Carson City, Nev., surrounded by family members.
He was born April 9, 1917, in Evansville, Ind., to George Herman and Louise Theresa (Schutter) Egbert. He graduated from Evansville's Central High School in 1935 and from the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis in 1940. His first job as a lab and X-ray technician was at St. John's Hospital in Red Wing, where he met Mary Helen Schwartau, a registered nurse. They married Sept. 12, 1941. They moved to Ely, Nev., in 1948, and to California in 1965, where Mary died in 1981. George moved to Minden in 1987.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; brother, Arthur Egbert; and sister, Gertrude Harders.
He is survived by four children: Carol Kalleres of Carson City; George D. Egbert of Westminster, Calif.; Barbara Egbert of Sunol, Calif.; and Elizabeth Lipton of Aptos, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gardnerville, Nev., on July 26. Private interment will be held in Minnesota. Donations may be made to Saint Mary's Hospice of Northern Nevada.
