Katherine Jean Brown, age 79, of Red Wing, passed peacefully on Wednesday, July 25, at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park in Red Wing.

Katherine Jean Brown, age 79, of Red Wing, passed peacefully on Wednesday, July 25, at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park in Red Wing.

Katherine was born May 26, 1933, in Fargo, N.D., the daughter of Eugene and Vera (Christensen) Conroy. She grew up in Detroit Lakes, Minn., and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1951. On Sept. 18, 1954, she married David O. Brown in Detroit Lakes, and they moved to Red Wing in 1969. David died on March 23, 1993. Katherine graduated from St. Cloud State University in 1967 with her bachelor's degree in education and her master's degree in guidance and counseling from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 1977. She taught science in the Red Wing School District for 23 years until retiring in 1993.

Katherine was an avid bridge player, playing in several local clubs including the Red Wing Golf Club Bridge Club and the Senior Center Club. She also enjoyed spending her winters in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Katherine is survived by her two sons, David Brown of Red Wing and Steven (Barbara) Brown of Richland, Wash.; daughter-in-law Kendra Brown of Sartell, Minn.; grandchildren, Chris, Mike, and Matt; brothers, Ken Conroy of Sunnyvale, Calif., and John K. (Ann) Conroy of Gulfport, Ala. She is also survived by many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David; son Daniel; and her parents.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, at the First United Methodist Church in Red Wing with Reverend Greg Strunk officiating. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and also for 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Burnside Cemetery in Red Wing.
