Robert Frederick Steffenhagen, 88, of Red Wing, died Sunday, July 15, at the Seminary Home.
He was born May 26, 1924, in Red Wing, to Charles and Lillian (Bremer) Steffenhagen. He grew up in Frontenac on the Hill Avenue family farm and attended country school. On Dec. 22, 1943, he married Dorothy DeRoy at St. John's Lutheran Church, Frontenac, and they farmed on Hill Avenue. During the 1950s, he helped out at the turkey farm in Frontenac and he also worked at Durkee Atwood for 30 years, retiring in 1989. In 1986, he and Dorothy moved to Red Wing.
In their younger years, they enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and listening to old-time music. Dorothy died in 1990. Growing up on a farm, Robert grew to love horses and tractors, something that he enjoyed his entire life. As he grew older, he could often be found with the remote in his hand, enjoying a television show - especially if it was a western.
He is survived by his children Darrell (Carole) Steffenhagen of Red Wing, Barbara (Myron) Hanson of Eagan, Norma (Michael) Nemeth of Red Wing, Linda (Jerry) McNamara of Pine Island, and Debra Steffenhagen of Windsor, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three children, Charlie, Peggy, and Jeffrey; his wife, Dorothy; and two brothers, Elmer and Roy.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Frontenac, with Rev. Christopher Hoppe officiating. Burial will be at Frontenac Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and for 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to the church endowment fund.

Thinking of you all in this difficult time and sending you my deepest sympathy. Robert will surely be missed! I'll always remember the good ol' days when they were still on the farm, and also the more recent times when i'd stop in and visit with him at the NH. He sat next to my dad in the dining room - so i got to see him often there. Our last chat was about farming on Hill Ave. and the family picnics. My thoughts & prayers are with you.
