Viola "Vi" Ohnstad, age 90, of Cannon Falls, died Monday afternoon, July 2, at Twin Rivers Assisted Living in Cannon Falls.
Viola "Vi" Ohnstad, age 90, of Cannon Falls, died Monday afternoon, July 2, at Twin Rivers Assisted Living in Cannon Falls.
Viola was born Jan. 20, 1922, in St. Paul, the daughter of William and Anna (Kogerer) Sager. She was raised in St. Paul. She worked as an aide at the sanatorium outside Cannon Falls as a teenager. On Oct. 14, 1944, she was united in marriage with Marvin Ohnstad in Dennison at the parsonage. Vi worked at several restaurants in Cannon Falls, as an aide at the Cannon Falls Hospital, and as a laborer at Cannon Equipment.
She liked cats, playing cards, and going to dances. Her grandchildren remember that her cookie jar was always full. Vi had a wonderful Shirley Temple collection.
Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; grandson Chris Mickelson; son-in-law Clarence Mickelson; sisters and brothers Johanna, Emily Jacobowitch, Richard Sager, Matilda, and two infant siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Marlys Mickelson; son, Allen; grandchildren Bradley and Jeffrey (Veronica) Mickelson; great-grandson, whom she adored, Carson; and special friend and caregiver Dennis Larson.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, at First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls with the Rev. Dan Forsgren officiating. Gathering time will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday at church. Inurnment at Urland Lutheran Cemetery.
