Lila Marie Snitker, 94, Bay City, Wis., died Thursday, May 10, at Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Community, Prescott, Wis.
Lila Marie Snitker, 94, Bay City, Wis., died Thursday, May 10, at Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Community, Prescott, Wis.
She was born July 4, 1917, in Allamakee County, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Christiansen) Sandry. She graduated high school in Lansing, Iowa, and attended normal school, receiving her teaching certificate. She taught in a school in rural Allamakee County. She married Alfred Meyer in 1938 in Iowa and he died in 1957. She married Fred Snitker in 1965 and he died in 1987. She worked at Peterson's Book Store in Lansing and she worked as a sales clerk in Waukon, Iowa, at Schultz Variety Store. She moved to Hager City in 1995.
She was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon and more recently was a member of Svea Lutheran Church. Her family fondly remembers how much she enjoyed picnics and picking apples and cherries in Gays Mills, Wis. She also enjoyed sewing and making quilts, embroidery, gardening, and animals - especially her cats. She enjoyed going to garage sales and collected many things, including ceramic birds.
Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie (Paul) Curry of Bay City; two sons, James (Ellen) Meyer of Rosemount, Minn., and Robert (Kathryn) Meyer of Byron, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands; grandson, Randy Johnson; and great-grandson, Thomas Berrier.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 14, at Svea Lutheran Church of rural Hager City, with Reverend William Wilson officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 14, at the Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. Visitation will be for 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to WELCA at Svea Lutheran Church.
