Lorene Elizabeth Keesling, 86, of Bay City, Wis., died April 16 at the Pepin Manor in Pepin, Wis.
Lorene Elizabeth Keesling, 86, of Bay City, Wis., died April 16 at the Pepin Manor in Pepin, Wis.
She was born April 8, 1926, in Stockholm Township, Pepin County, daughter of Edward and Lily Weitz Fleming. She attended school in Stockholm and Maiden Rock. In 1947, she married Gordon Keesling. They lived in Hopkins, Minn., for over 20 years. Lorene worked for General Mills and as a secretary for the Hopkins South Junior High school for 5 years. In 1970, they moved to the Stockholm-Pepin area, bought a hobby farm, and ran a secondhand store with antiques. She was a teller at the Bank of Alma for several years. For 10 years, she and Gordon headed south for the winters but then decided to stay put and enjoy the Wisconsin winters. She loved gardening, embroidery, and baking bread by hand every week.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; her parents, Edward and Lily Weitz Fleming; brother William; sisters, Anna Mae Fleming and Beatrice Samuelson.
She is survived by four children: Keith (Janis) Keesling of Vadnais Heights, Minn.; Dawn (Tom) Fischer of Red Wing, Minn., and Apache Junction, Ariz.; Renee (Gary) Elberg and Dorothy (Jason) Peters, both of Pepin; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brothers James (Marilyn) Fleming of Prescott, Wis., Harold Fleming of Pepin; brother-in-law Jerry Keesling of Big Lake, Minn., and sister-in-law Beverly Bernhardt of Duluth, Minn.; many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 20, at Oakwood Cemetery in Pepin with Pastor Karna Baseman officiating. A memorial gathering with a luncheon will follow at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church Hall in Pepin. Friends may also call 1 hour prior to the graveside service at the church.
