Vernon J. Ryberg, 82, of Kenyon, died Wednesday, March 28, at the Kenyon Sunset Home.

Vernon J. Ryberg, 82, of Kenyon, died Wednesday, March 28, at the Kenyon Sunset Home.

He was born May 3, 1929, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Chester and Martha (Lips) Ryberg. He graduated with the class of 1947 from Kenyon High School and attended the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture from 1947 until 1949. Vernon served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956 and then went to carpentry school at Dunwoody Institute for 2 years. On June 25, 1960, Vernon was united in marriage to Shirley Smith in Dannebrog, Neb. The couple lived in Rochester, and Vernon worked as a carpenter. In 1968, Vernon and Shirley began farming southeast of Kenyon on Vernon's third-generation family farm.

He was a member of Faith Community Church in West Concord, where he was involved as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and AWANA leader, and was a member of Gideons International. Vernon also enjoyed fishing trips, music, and especially listening to quartets.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ryberg of Kenyon; children John Ryberg of Byron, Steven (Denise) Ryberg of Jackson, and Sarah (Doug) Bartell of Welch, and seven grandchildren, Cody and Kyler Ryberg, Courtney and Logan Ryberg, Rylie, Kenna, and Cooper Bartell. He is also survived by a sister, Althea Brandon of Zephyrhills, Fla., and brother, Delbert (Mary) Ryberg of Oronoco, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, James Brandon.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon, from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, April 1, and at Faith Community Church from 10-11 a.m. Monday, April 2. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 2, at Faith Community Church with The Reverend David Breederland officiating. Interment will be in the Kenyon Cemetery in Kenyon. Memorials are preferred to Faith Community Church or the Gideons.
