Anne Virginia Plouf Holbert passed away March 27 at the Fairview Seminary Home, Red Wing, where she had resided the past 4-1/2 years.
Anne Virginia Plouf Holbert passed away March 27 at the Fairview Seminary Home, Red Wing, where she had resided the past 4-1/2 years.
Anne and her twin sister, Olive, were born on Jan. 23, 1917, in Minneapolis, Minn., to R. Leo Plouf and Ann (Bolduc) Plouf. The family relocated to Milbank, S.D., when Anne was 5. Anne attended and graduated from St. Lawrence Parochial School, Milbank. She attended boarding school at Holy Angels Academy, Richfield, Minn., from which she was a graduate of the class of 1934. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Milbank, until relocating to Red Wing in April of 2004. In addition, Anne was a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Leadership Course.
She married Frank Mathew Holbert on Nov. 28, 1940. They had two sons, Frank Matthew (Luise) Holbert and David Leo (Nadine) Holbert. Her husband passed away on Nov. 17, 1952, at the age of 38. Her mother passed away on Dec. 19, 1944.
Anne was the general manager of her father's business, The Mercantile Co. (wholesale grocery and tobacco), Milbank, from 1957 until her retirement in 1979.
Anne had a great sense of humor, enjoyed many great friends, her five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her two sons and their children - Frank and Luise's children: daughter, Christine Holbert Gay, Sauk Rapids, Minn., and her three daughters: Amanda, St. Cloud, Minn.; Samantha and Breeanna Gay, Sauk Rapids; and son, David E. Holbert, Minneapolis, Minn. - David and Nadine's children: sons, Chris, Chicago, Ill.; Nick, Beaver Creek, Colo., and his three children, Emily, Chilton, and Leo Holbert Hants, England; and daughter, Holly Anne Tauer, Red Wing, and her son, Ted Tauer.
She is also survived by her brother David (Mary Jo) Plouf, Oldsmar, Fla., and her sister Jackie Browman, San Jose, Calif., and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband; parents; stepmother, Isabel; twin sister, Olive, and husband, Al Schmeirer; sisters and spouses, Felice (Dr. John) Annand, Marylou (Walt) Rundin; and brother Richard and wife, Betty Plouf; and nephew Rick Plouf.
There will be a memorial service. Anne's last years of life were enhanced by the wonderful and caring staff at the Fairview Seminary Home. Memorials can be sent to the Salvation Army or the Red Wing Food Shelf.
