Vera Eleanor Hielscher, age 90, of Red Wing, died on March 27 at her home at Potter Ridge.

Vera Eleanor Hielscher, age 90, of Red Wing, died on March 27 at her home at Potter Ridge.

She was born on Feb. 19, 1922, in Wabasha, to Andrew and Mary (Theismann) Dick. She graduated from St. Felix High School in Wabasha. On June 11, 1946, she married George Hielscher in Wabasha. They farmed near Red Wing for many years, and she worked as an in-home health aide and did volunteer work. They moved to Florida where they lived for 15 years before moving back to Red Wing in 1993. They resided at Jordan Towers. George died on Sept. 26, 2002. For the past several years she has lived at Potter Ridge.

She enjoyed crocheting, going out to eat, her four-legged grandkids, and dancing. She was a member of the Church of Saint Joseph and the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Women's Auxiliary.

Vera is survived by her two daughters, Georgene (William) Benson and Katie (Daryl) Kuhl, both of Red Wing; five grandchildren, Bobbie Ann Benson, Loren (Kathleen) Benson, Chris (Naomi) Benson, Nicholas and Nicole Kuhl; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Don "Swede" (Sharon) Dick of Wabasha, Erv Dick of Lake City, Edward (Shirley) Dick of Eagan, Leo (Lucille) Dick of Wabasha; and one sister, Marne (Harry) Lager of Wabasha.

She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, John, Robert, Thomas, Dennis; one sister, Fran Lager; and her cat, Sonja.

Mass of Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 30, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson Chapel in Red Wing, and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to Fairview Red Wing Hospice or Goodhue County Humane Society.
