Gladys Olson, 95
Gladys Alvina Olson, age 95, of Chatfield, and formerly of Willmar and Cannon Falls, died on Tuesday evening, March 13, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, where she has been residing since November 2006.
Gladys Alvina Olson, age 95, of Chatfield, and formerly of Willmar and Cannon Falls, died on Tuesday evening, March 13, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, where she has been residing since November 2006.
Gladys was born on Sept. 10, 1916, in Goodhue, Minn., the daughter of Fredrick and Sadie (Stemman) Buck. She graduated from Goodhue High School in 1935.
Gladys married Harold W. Olson on July 23, 1940, in Goodhue. She had worked as a secretary at the Red Wing State Training School for Boys in the 1940s and then followed her love of children and babysat for many children from the 1940s and on. Gladys and Harold had two daughters, Sherry and Susan. She was a member of First Covenant Church in Red Wing, where she had been very active for many years. After Harold's retirement, they moved to Cannon Falls in 1976.
Gladys loved to bake and cook and made the best chicken! She was devoted to her husband and truly missed him since his passing on April 2, 2003.
She was loved dearly by her family and friends and also by all of the children and their families she babysat for. She will be greatly missed by the staff and residents of The Chosen Valley Care Center.
Gladys is survived by her daughters, Sherry Olson Schaefer (special friend, Darrel Knuppel) of Grover, Colo., and Susan (Earl) Button of Monroe, Wis.; five grandchildren, John (Sarah) Button, Heidi (Stefan) Smith, Heather (Detlef) Wehner, Julie (Tony) Albright, and David Peters; five great-grandchildren, Soenke and Freya Wehner, Eli and Isaac Button, and Alyson Albright; sister, Bernice Buck of Aitkin and formerly of Goodhue; and nieces and nephews, Brona Lodermeier, Lyle Bartlett, Bruce Johnson, Jan Johnson, Lori Nilo, Lee Buck, Julie Strickland, Susan Kolberg, Kevin Buck, JoEllen Augustine, Barb Buck, Jackie Rohe, Tobias Buck, Ann Stewart, and Mary Lynn Buck, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; two grandchildren, Susie and Jeff Peters; brothers, Donald, Burton, and Wayne "Toby" Buck; sister, Phyllis Bartlett and Isabel Johnson.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Philip Ruud and Pastor Tim Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be John Button, David, Mike and Pat Dorsey, Carlton Olson and Bruce Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be David Peters, Lyle Bartlett, Kevin Buck, Lee Buck and Tobias Buck.
