Verona E. Meincke, age 89, of Lake City, passed away Tuesday, March 13, at the Lake City Care Center.
Verona E. Meincke, age 89, of Lake City, passed away Tuesday, March 13, at the Lake City Care Center.
She was born May 15, 1922, in Red Wing, to Albert and Wilhelmina (Gawrisch) Fitschen. She grew up in Lake City and graduated from Lincoln High School. On Oct. 3, 1941, she married Robert Meincke at West Florence Immanuel Lutheran. They farmed for many years in Featherstone Township until retiring in 1981 and then moved to Lake City in 2002.
After retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling the world. Verona also enjoyed gardening, dancing, spending time with her family, and writing poetry. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing.
She is survived by her two children, David (Arlis) Meincke and Joyce (Dick) Dahling, both of Lake City; seven grandchildren, Brian (Laurie) Meincke, Cindy (Heri) Molina, Kevin (Kristin) Meincke, Kristin (Dave) Nagel, Deb (Jim) Berg, Dusty (Brandy) Dahling, Darren Dahling; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lorraine Kunde of Goodhue and Katherine (Jerry) Bruss of Milwaukee; sister-in-law, Francis Fitschen of Lake City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; son Gary; grandson Steven; two brothers, Vernon and Allen.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Todd Engel officiating. Burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Red Wing. Visitation will be 4- 7 p.m. Friday, March 16, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City, and for 1 hour prior to the service at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing on Saturday. Memorials are preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Church and the ALS Association.

Dear David, Joyce and families, My condoleances to you and your families on the death of Verona. I have lots of good memories of card playing, I spy, Star Light Moonlight, and Goodhue bus rides with you when our families got together. May God continue to give you His peace.
