Eugene F. "Geno" Murray, age 72, of Pepin, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 13, following a brief battle with cancer.

Eugene F. "Geno" Murray, age 72, of Pepin, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 13, following a brief battle with cancer.

He was born on May 30, 1939, in Pepin, son to Leo and Edna (Everson) Murray.

Eugene attended Pepin Schools, graduating from Pepin High School with the class of 1957.

Shortly after high school, Oct. of 1957, to be exact, Eugene began his service to our country, enlisting in the United States Navy, serving most notably the USS Ticonderoga, he gave to our country until his retirement in 1976, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer USN.

On Dec. 18, 1959, Eugene was united in marriage to Glenda K. Young at Naha AFB, Okinawa, Japan. And to this union, three children were born.

Eugene had a hobby for looking for arrowheads. He had acquired a wonderful, large collection over the years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an accomplished gunsmith. He had a deep love for the outdoors and was a very active member of the NRA.

Eugene will be sadly missed by his three children, Curtis Wayne Murray of National City, Calif., Janice Colleen Murray of Webb City, Mo., and Brent Jay Murray of Carthage, Mo.; five grandchildren, Jessica Murray, Sean Piper, Stone Murray, Patience Murray and Trinity Murray; also by brothers and sisters, Sharon (Les) Tranby of Onamia, Minn., Sean Murray of St. Paul, Rollie Murray of South Dakota and Randy Murray of St. Paul, Patricia (Jim) Wegener of Manawa, Wis., Kadren Broadhead of Ellsworth, and Cynthia (Gary) Baader of Pepin; he will be further missed by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial celebration will be held at 12 p.m. noon on Sunday, March 18, at the fellowship hall of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pepin, with Pastor Karna officiating. A time of fellowship, food and further celebration of Eugene's life will be held from 12:15 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Full military honors followed by a bagpipe solo will be held at 1:30 p.m.
