Charles Philip Scheitel, 62, of Red Wing, died Saturday, March 10, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
He was born on May 23, 1949, in Potsdam, Minn., to Herbert and Dorothy (Schye) Scheitel. He attended schools at Vasa and Burnside and graduated in 1967 from Red Wing Central High School. He then attended vocational school in St. Paul for mechanics. Over the years, he was employed for area farmers near White Rock, worked at Meyers Industries, owned and operated Charlie's Auto Repair, and also helped his friend Joe Fredrickson in Oak Center. On June 14, 1986, he married Linda Groth. He enjoyed making model cars and volunteered as a Cub Scout leader.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; two children, Charlene and Charles Jr. both of Red Wing; his siblings, Doris (John) Farley of Arizona, Herbert (Kay) Scheitel of Worthington, Minn., Mildred (Gerald) Niebeling of Welch, David (Pat) Scheitel of Redwood Falls, Minn., Florence Keppers of St. Paul, Dwight (Sandy) Scheitel of Red Wing, and Robert Scheitel of Wanamingo, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Ruth Thompson and Virginia and Myrtle Scheitel.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, with Rev. Kristi Mitchell officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at the funeral home and for 1 hour prior to the service.
