Delphine Blanche Nelson, 84, of Red Wing, died Friday, March 2, at her home.

Delphine Blanche Nelson, 84, of Red Wing, died Friday, March 2, at her home.

She was born on July 5, 1927, in Belvidere Township, Goodhue County, Minn., to Armond and Blanche (Issendorf) Breuer. Her mother died at childbirth and she was raised by her grandparents, John and Anna Issendorf. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School. On May 6, 1950, she married Arnold Nelson. They lived in Red Wing where she worked a few years at Red Wing Shoe Company. Arnold died on Jan. 9, 2011.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church. She enjoyed cooking and gardening and her family recalls how down-to-earth, caring, and hardworking of a person she was.

Survivors include two daughters, Debra (Wayne) Diercks of Rochester and Barbara (Steven) Miers of Inver Grove Heights; five grandsons, Scott and David Diercks, Brandon Nelson and Matthew and Eric Miers; a special cousin, Elaine (John) Diercks of Lake City; and other family. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Brian; and twin granddaughters.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Rev. Jack Nordgaard officiating. Burial will be a later date at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Belvidere. Visitation will be for 1 hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church.
