Richard David Tefft, 66, Hastings, died Thursday, Jan. 26, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Richard David Tefft, 66, Hastings, died Thursday, Jan. 26, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

He was born Nov. 15, 1945, in Red Wing, the son of David W. and Florence D. (Koester) Tefft. He lived in the Red Wing and Hastings areas all of his life. He was a Red Wing High School graduate and he served in the MN Army National Guard 1962-1984. He worked for Red Wing Industries and he worked as a carpenter working with his dad building several homes in the Red Wing area and as a lead machinist at Xcel Energy Prairie Island Nuclear Power Plant until his retirement in 2006.

He married LaVaun Vig at First United Methodist Church, Red Wing on March 20, 1971. They later divorced. He married Jean Severson in Red Wing in December 1988. Jean died April 6, 2010.

He was a firearms instructor and enjoyed hunting, fishing, telling stories, long car rides, music, spending time with family, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, and he looked forward to attending his coffee club at Perkins.

Survivors include his children: Heather (Duane) Peterson of Hastings; Ryan (Kellie) Tefft of Kingman, Ariz., Alana (Scott) Hove of Peoria, Ariz., and Shane (Linda) Linder of Red Wing; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Corey (Jennifer) Severson of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Denise Torrey of Minneapolis; his siblings, Gary (Bonnie) Tefft of Memononee Falls, Wis., Bill (Diane Venden) Tefft of Sun Prairie, Wis., Edith Tefft of Red Wing, and Mary (Wayne) Nehring of Red Wing; and many nieces, nephews, and other family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; his parents; and one grandson, Lucas Peterson.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Greg Strunk officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
