Karen H. Hardyman, 68

Karen Hyde Hardyman, 68, of Old Frontenac, Minn., and Ft. Myers, Fla., died unexpectedly Monday, Dec. 26, at Saint Marys Hospital, Rochester.

She was born March 24, 1943, in Beverly, Mass., the daughter of Leslie and June (Waggott) Hutchinson. She was a 1960 graduate of Andover High School in Andover, Mass., and she attended Boston University, graduating in 1964 with a B.A. in Spanish. She married Jerry Hyde on April 18, 1966, and they lived in Wayland, Mass., where she raised three daughters and was an active community volunteer.

She was a world traveler, traveling to all of the continents but one. She and Jerry split their time between Martha's Vineyard and Southwestern Florida. Jerry died Oct. 20, 1999. She became an avid golfer and created many new friendships, including Bill Hardyman, whom she married on Aug. 4, 2007. They purchased a home in Old Frontenac and wintered in Florida. She was an English language tutor to those learning English as a second language. She loved to decorate, garden and be on the water. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Hardyman of Red Wing; three daughters, Kimberly (Bill) Clouser of Fort Collins, Colo., Whitney (Brian) Field of Franklin, Mass., and Stephanie (Bill) Ivester of Weston, Mass.; five grandchildren, Lynne, Conor, Gillian, Alexandra, and Will; one brother, David Hutchinson of Vallejo, Calif.; four stepchildren, Kathleen (Doug) Morem, Matthew (Tracy), and Andrew Hardyman, all of Red Wing, and Mary (John) Swenson Hardyman of Mahtomedi, Minn.; five step-grandchildren, Alex, Evan, Madelyn, Seth, and Jacob; numerous other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerry, and her parents.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at Christ Episcopal Church, Red Wing, with Reverend Michael A. Schulenberg officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. A reception will follow the service at the Red Wing Golf Club. Burial will be in Massachusetts at a later date. Memorials are preferred to Pay It Forward, Red Wing; Christ Episcopal Church, Old Frontenac; or the New England Home for Little Wanderers, Development Dept., 271 Huntington Ave., 2nd Floor, Boston, MA 02115.
