Geneva Pearl Thoner, age 95, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, at St. Brigid’s at Hi-Park.
She was born June 10, 1916, in El Paso Township, Wis., the daughter of Ernest and Myrtle (Perkins) Betterley. She attended schools in Red Wing and Pepin, Wis. She married Lavern Simanski on June 10, 1937, in Red Wing. He died in April of 1960. She then married Harry Thoner in December of 1962. He died in May of 1978.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed baking, crocheting, and craft projects.
She is survived by three daughters, Diane (John) Parsons of Lake City, Mary (Jack) Tobias of Watertown, Wis., and Linda (Richard) Blair of River Falls; one son, Brent (Doreen) Simanski of Aurora, Colo.; one sister, Betty Anderson of Red Wing; one daughter-in-law, Katherine Simanski of Lake City. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; two sons, Dennis and Gary; and two brothers, Ernest and Wayne Betterley.
Funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at St. Brigid’s at Hi-Park Chapel with Dar Reeck officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and for 1 hour prior to the service at St. Brigid’s at Hi-Park Chapel.
