Gerald James "Jerry" Bowen, age 69, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 15, at his son's home in Cannon Falls.

Gerald James "Jerry" Bowen, age 69, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 15, at his son's home in Cannon Falls.

Jerry was born on Oct. 8, 1942, in Red Wing, the son of Floyd "Toby" and Sarah "Sadie" (Ryan) Bowen. Jerry graduated from Red Wing High School in 1960. He married Gloria Rostvold on Sept. 30, 1961, in Red Wing. Together they raised four children and later divorced.

Following high school, Jerry worked for American Family Insurance as a salesman and district manager. He was a former owner of Bob & Jerry's Super Valu in Red Wing and later owned Cannon Super Valu in Cannon Falls for 30 years. He was a self-employed businessman and owned a chain of convenience stores for many years.

Jerry was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Wing, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Our Lady of Joy in Scottsdale.

Jerry had a drive to live and like to do things “big.” During the 1980s he sponsored a dirt-track race team and traveled across the United States to see the races. He loved to drive and cars in general. He had a collection of antique cars. He enjoyed traveling throughout the world, especially to Mexico, Ireland, and New Orleans. Jerry will be remembered for his love of family, especially his 12 grandchildren, and his unique sayings and nicknames for everyone!

Jerry is survived by his four children and 12 grandchildren: James (Martha) and their children, Patrick, Michael, Kathleen and Caroline Bowen of Cannon Falls; Kellie (Scott) LeClair and their sons, Joshua and Logan of Eagan; Joseph (Stephanie) Bowen and their children, Maxwell, Molly, and Makayla of Cannon Falls; and John (Lori) Bowen and their children, Matthew, Michael and Megan of Red Wing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Toby and Sadie Bowen; and an infant sister, Carol.

Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church on Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls, with Father Jay Kythe celebrating. Interment will follow directly after Mass at Calvary Cemetery in Red Wing. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Patrick Bowen, Michael G. Bowen, Matthew Bowen, Michael R. Bowen, Maxwell Bowen, Joshua LeClair, and Logan LeClair. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, Kathleen, Caroline, Megan, Molly, and Makayla Bowen.

Memorials are preferred to Toys for Tots.
