Leone M. Siemer died Sunday, March 7, at the age of 93, at Potter Ridge Assisted Living where she had resided since May 2009.
Leone was born in a log cabin in Miles City, Mont., on May 26, 1916, to Mabel Pickert and William Beckler. Her father worked for the Great Northern Railroad. The family later moved to Red Wing. She graduated from Red Wing High School and married Freddie Anderson who she later divorced. She moved to St. Paul and worked as a dental technician and married Dr. Harold N. Siemer, one of the dentists for who she worked.
When Dr. Siemer enlisted in the Navy in WWII and was initially commissioned a lieutenant and dentist on the battleship New Jersey, Leone became a Navy wife. She and Dr. Siemer lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the Naval Air Station. They had two children, Gaye and H. Bradley.
After Leone and Dr. Siemer divorced, Leone returned to Red Wing to care for her aging parents and raise her children. She retired from Red Wing schools where she had been employed as a secretary for many years.
Leone was preceded in death by her parents; both her husbands; her brother, Leroy Beckler; and a nephew, VerDayne Beckler.
She is survived by her children, Gaye of Red Wing and Brad of Hailey, Idaho; grandchildren, Christopher and Michael Larson; nephew, Montgomery Beckler of St. Paul; and many cousins.
There will be a private memorial service and celebration of her life for friends and family at the chapel at Potter Ridge Assisted Living at 2 p.m. Monday, March 15.
