Dr. Andrew Kristo, 76

Dr. Andrew Kristo, age 76, of Eau Claire, Wis., died at home with his family after a battle with ocular and liver melanoma.

He was born July 3, 1933, in Red Wing, Minn. He graduated from Red Wing High School in 1951. He attended UW - River Falls and the University of Minnesota, graduating from dental school in 1957. He served two years in the Air Force as a dentist stationed at Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City, S.D. He began his orthodontic practice in Eau Claire in 1959 and continued until his retirement in 1992.

In 1951, he married Suzanne Johnson and together they raised three sons. He was actively involved in many local, state and national dental and orthodontic organizations. He was a charter member of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics. He was a member of the honorary dental society - Omicron Kappa Upsilon. For many years he was a member of Christ Church Cathedral, the Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners, the Eau Claire Country Club and various other local organizations.

After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed wintering in LaQuinta, Calif., and Surprise, Ariz. From 1999 to 2007, they spent summers in the Hayward area. In 2007, they returned to Eau Claire.

Andy enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, tennis, gardening and the Minnesota Gophers and Vikings. In his retirement years, he and Sue took trips and cruises to many parts of the world.

Andy is survived by his wife, Sue; his son, Tom (Joni Johnson); his son, Steve; and grandchildren, Jaymie and Kelly Kristo, David Tehle and Bo Kristo, Charlie and Anna Kristo, Meegan, Grace and Griffin Kristo and Jordan Olson Wright, a brother, George Kristo of Red Wing; a sister, Marga Furbee of Moundsville, W.V.; a sister-in-law, Joan Eichinger of Orange, Calif.; seven nieces and nephews; and many caring friends scattered around the country.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest son, Mike.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Andrew's name to the Eau Claire Community Foundation Kristo Family Fund or the Eau Claire Community Foundation Community Fund, 306 South Barstow St. Suite #104, Eau Claire WI 54701.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Grace Lutheran Church, 202 W. Grand Avenue, Eau Claire. Father H. Scott Kirby and Pastor Rolf Nestingen will officiate. Burial will immediately follow services in Rest Haven Cemetery in The Town of Washington. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #53. Friends may call at Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire, from 4-8 p.m. Friday evening and at the church Saturday morning an hour prior to the services.
