A. Ernest "Ernie" L. Strand, age 90, of Bay City, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at the Prescott Nursing and Rehab. Community, Prescott, Wis.
Ernie was born on July 29, 1919, in Northfield, Minn., the son of Alfred and Josephine (Holien) Strand. Ernie served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. from 1941 until his honorable discharge in 1945. He met and later married Rosalie Strand; together, they farmed in the town of Hartland.
Ernie later worked for U.W. River Falls in the maintenance dept., retiring in 1986.
Ernie raised black labs since 1964.
Ernie is survived by his wife Rosalie, Bay City, Wis.; children, Kathleen Denzer, Kenton Strand, Vicki Anderson, Kyle Strand; 19 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his black lab Cyrus, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
His son, Vaughn; parents; two brothers, Luverne and Clayton "Bud"; and one sister, Marjorie Hubbard, preceded him in death.
Funeral services for Ernie were held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Bethel Covenant Church, Ellsworth. Rev. Greg Fondell officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, River Falls. Friends and family were invited to call at the church on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.
Pallbearers were Ernie's sons, Kenton Strand and Kyle Strand, and grandsons, Joshua Denzer, Seth Anderson, Cody Anderson, Zach Anderson, Dustin Strand, Logan Strand, and Spencer Strand.
Honorary pallbearers were Zane, Evan, Carter and Owen Strand.
Military rites were provided by Fletcher-Pechacek American Legion Post #121, River Falls, Wis.
