Dr. Oliver E.H. Larson, 87, of Red Wing, died on July 5, 2009, at his home.

Dr. Oliver E.H. Larson, 87, of Red Wing, died on July 5, 2009, at his home. Oliver was born Aug. 11, 1921, in Elgin, Minn., to Edwin and Anna (Anderson) Larson. He graduated from Elgin High School and attended the University of Minnesota.

After graduating from medical school in 1945, he joined the United States Army and served at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and the 361st Station Hospital in Tokyo, Japan. On July 5, 1947, he married Agnes McNulty in Plainfield, New Jersey. He began a 40-year practice of family medicine in Zumbrota in the fall of 1948. He was a member of the American Academy of Family Practice, staff of the Zumbrota hospital, Pinehaven Nursing Home, served two terms on the Zumbrota School Board, member of Stary-Yerke VFW 5727 and was an avid golfer. 

Oliver is survived by his wife, Agnes of 62 years; son, Karl; daughters Blair (Wayne) Busby, Martha (Lou) DiSciascio, Barbara (Michael Brewer) Larson; four granddaughters Michelle Whipple, Kristen Asleson, Angela Heitmann, Nadine Teidemann; and nine great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Haley, William, Emma, Allison, Cassie, Ashley, Willy and Oliver; two sisters, Avis Harrington and Gladys (Wallace) Richardson of Plainview, Minn. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gwen.

The family would like to thank the Red Wing Hospice and especially Penny for their care. His body has been donated to the Mayo Medical School and a memorial service will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in Red Wing at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2009 with Pastoral Minister, Dar Reeck officiating.  www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.

As a high schooler I played golf at Zumbrota. Doc Larson was always gracious and a true gentleman in how he treated his fellow golfers, even the young ones. He always made me feel welcome at Zumbrota. Slater Lampman.
