Thora Ring, 95

Thora Ring, 95, passed away June 16 at the Good Samaritan Comforcare Home in Austin, Minn. Thora lived 92 years in the Wanamingo area and moved to Austin in 2007 for assisted living care and to be near her daughters.

Thora was born on Dec. 7, 1913. Her mother was Anna (Bjugan) Thoreson. Her father Thorsten Thoreson passed away three weeks before she was born. Her parents, one sister, Selma, and two brothers, Adolph and Thorvin preceded her in death. She attended Holton School District 99 and Wanamingo High School, graduating in the 1932 class. She was united in marriage to Melvin D. Ring on Oct. 25, 1934. They lived on the Ring farm and she was active in the farm life. Melvin preceded her in death on June 11, 1988. She moved from the farm to the Springcroft Apartments in Wanamingo in 1990. She helped Merlin and Janet at Ringo's Bar and Grill six days a week, until her move to Austin. This she enjoyed and gave her a purpose for each day.

Thora was an active member of Wanamingo Lutheran Church. At this church she was baptized Jan. 1, 1914, confirmed Nov. 4, 1928, and married Oct. 25, 1934. Her life centered around the activities of the church and she missed this church family when she moved to Austin.

Survivors include daughters Ann Louise (Dale) Odegaard and Vernice (Bernard) Bishop, both of Austin; son, Merlin (Janet) Ring of Wanamingo; four grandchildren Davin (Jill) Odegaard of Minneapolis, Darica (Jeff) Nelson of St. Louis Park, Teresa (Yassar) Almanaseer of Mankato and Aron Bishop of Austin; three great-grandchildren, Brayden Bishop of Austin, Seth and Noah Almanaseer of Mankato; three step-grandchildren, Jon, Eric and Shelley; step great-grandchildren; foster sister Genevieve Hendrickson of Yuma, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Margarethe Thoreson; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, June 22, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Wanamingo Lutheran Church in Wanamingo with Reverend Paul Reppe officiating. Burial will be in the Wanamingo Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Casketbearers are Davin Odegaard, Jill Odegaard, Darica Odegaard Nelson, Jeff Nelson, Aron Bishop, Teresa Bishop Almanaseer and Yassar Almanaseer.

Memorials are suggested to the Wanamingo Lutheran Church or Wanamingo Lutheran Church Cemetery fund.

Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home- Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
