Thomas Earl Riniker, age 58, of Minneapolis, passed away May 4, 2009. He was born in Red Wing, Jan. 5, 1951, to Earl and Mary Riniker and graduated from St. Thomas Academy. Tom was a USMC veteran and served his country in Vietnam. He received his Bachelor's degree from St. Cloud State University and a Master's degree from the University of Oregon. Tom was an educator of the deaf and hard of hearing for 30 years, including 28 years at Intermediate District 287
in Hennepin County.
He was passionate about nature, humanitarian causes, politics, and the Minnesota Twins. He traveled extensively and especially enjoyed his frequent trips to the Far East. Tom was a dedicated teacher and positively impacted the lives of hundreds of children and young adults. He was loved as a son, brother, uncle and friend by many and will be greatly missed.
Survived by his mother, Mary Riniker; sisters, Mary Sue (Jerry) Reiners and Barbara Daniels; six nephews; and girlfriend, Mary Peyton. Preceded in death by his father, Earl.
Memorial service will be Saturday, May 9, at 10 a.m. at Lakewood Cemetery Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Ave. S., Minneapolis, with visitation 1/2 hour prior to service. Private interment. Arrangements by Morris Nilsen Chapel, (612) 869-3226, www.morrisnilsen.com.
