ST. PAUL — Zumbrota-Mazeppa senior Travis Beniak cruised through the 3,200-meter run Friday at the Class A state track and field meet and turned in a third-place performance at Hamline University.
Beniak finished in 9 minutes, 40.31 seconds, which placed him behind Winona Cotter’s Donny Wasinger (9:22.87) and Perham’s Kevin Lachowitzer (9:28.81). Beniak will also compete in today’s 1,600, which begins at 4:31 p.m.
Lake City’s Indy Liljevall also performed well enough in Friday’s prelims of the 800 that he’ll compete in today’s finals. Liljevall’s time of 1:58.62 puts him in sixth place out of nine athletes who qualified for finals. The 800 is scheduled to start at 5:53 p.m.
The Tigers also had Jake Hoops running in the 200 and 400, but he failed to get out of prelims. The same went for the 4x200 relay.
Hoops finished 11th in the 400 at 51.66 and 20th in the 200 at 23.3. The relay — Leo Ting, Karl Novak, Hoops and Liljevall — finished just out of the finals in 10th place in 1:34.78.
