Margaret Peterson, 93

Margaret Christine Nelson Peterson passed away with her family near her side at the River Falls Area Hospital on Oct. 29.

Margaret Christine Nelson Peterson passed away with her family near her side at the River Falls Area Hospital on Oct. 29.

Margaret was born at home in rural Ellsworth, Wis., on Nov. 23, 1918, on a warm day; it was referred to as an unusual November. Margaret was first-born of twins to Jay and Violet (Swanson) Nelson. Margaret attended Ottman Corner School for 8 years along with her twin brother, Kenneth, and her younger brothers, Ralph (Bud) and Robert. As a young adult, Margaret worked as a housekeeper in River Falls, Wis., and in Red Wing, Minn. Margaret met Alvin Peterson at Bethel Covenant Church; they were engaged on Christmas 1939 and then married Aug. 10, 1940.

Margaret's love of her church and faith brought her to a calling for her to serve on the Board, as a Sunday school teacher, and with Dorcas and Ladies Aid. Margaret enjoyed gardening, baking, traveling, crafts, and also had a passion for reading. Most of all, she loved her family and friends, celebrating any occasion with them. Love and laughter and plenty of food was always served; two special treats were her cookies and cinnamon rolls.

Margaret is survived by brothers Ralph (Bud) and Robert; her loving son, Duane (Patricia Freier Peterson); grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband; twin brother, Kenneth; sister, Helen Ottem; two sisters-in-law; daughter and son-in-law; and various relatives and friends.

Margaret was 93 years, 11 months, and 6 days, and will be deeply missed by those who loved her.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Bethel Covenant Church. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Moeville Bethel Cemetery.

Hill Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Ellsworth is assisting the family. Please visit www.hillfuneralservice.com to leave an online condolence.
