Gary James Langer, age 69, of Ellsworth, died at home on Friday, May 18, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Gary James Langer, age 69, of Ellsworth, died at home on Friday, May 18, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on June 4, 1942, to Stanley and Barbara (Taplin) Langer in Red Wing, Minn. He married Karen Johnsen on Oct. 28, 1961, at St. Francis Catholic Church. Most of his life was spent as a sales representative in the meat industry. He worked for Peter's Meat Products, John Morrell, and J&B Wholesale Distributers.

Gary loved spending time with his family, vacationing, and playing golf. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He and his wife enjoyed their winters in Florida. He was a member of the Ellsworth Fire Department for 27 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Kade James Langer.

Gary is survived by his wife, Karen; children, Brent (Carla) Langer of Ellsworth and Kristen (Kris Schultz) Langer of Fond du Lac, Wis.; grandchildren Kellen, Kensie, and Aubrey; siblings, Michael and Gregory.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, May 21, at the Hill Funeral Home in Ellsworth.
