Cannon River Lutheran to celebrate 150th anniversary
Cannon River Lutheran Church will be celebrating its 150th anniversary beginning with a 10 a.m. worship service Sept. 16. A photograph of the congregation and guests will be taken in front of the church, followed by a catered dinner at noon. Tickets for the dinner may be purchased by calling Ellen Hartman at (507) 263-7205 on or before Sept. 2. Adult tickets are $15 and children and seniors are $12. The church is located on 280th Street in rural Cannon Falls, four miles east of Highway 20.
Alpha Course offered
on the Christian faith
Valley View Assembly of God Church in Lake City will begin The Alpha Course from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Alpha is for anyone interested in finding out more about the Christian faith. Adults of all ages are welcome. Each Wednesday evening will include a dinner, large group learning and small group discussion.
Invite a friend to come with to the introductory meeting and decide after the evening if you would like to attend the 12-week Wednesday night Alpha Course. A freewill offering will be taken. Dinner reservations should be made by Sunday by calling the church office, (651) 345-3432. Leave your name, number attending and phone number, or e-mail education@vvaglc.org. Child care and classes will be provided to your children upon request when making reservations. The church is located at 305 W. Grant St., Goodhue County 5, one block from the Mayo Medical complex.
Russian missionary to talk
at New River Assembly
Bob McKay, a missionary to Russia, will speak at 10 a.m. Sunday at New River Assembly of God Church, 240 Spates Ave. McKay serves as academic dean for Evangel Theological Seminary in Kiev, Ukraine. He also travels for the seminary teaching and recruiting, and assisting the graduates in their ministries throughout the former Soviet Union.
Christian Women will
host Sept. 10 luncheon
River Valley Christian Women’s Connection welcomes the public to attend its “A Harvest of Ideas” luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 10 at the St. James Hotel.
Special feature will be Dorothy Hjermstad of Wanamingo. She will present “Gourds of ideas” including decorative hand-crafted purses, necklaces and bowls made of gourds.
Music will be Kik Gheen of Red Wing. Speaker will be Paula Ziekowski of Maple Grove, Minn. Her topic is “A real fixer-upper.” This image consultant found she needed more than a casual makeover to find long-lasting satisfaction in her life.

Sunday school sign-up
scheduled at St. Paul’s
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 320 West Ave., will have Sunday school sign-up from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
Grace and St. John’s set Sunday school registration
On Sept. 9, Grace and St. John’s Lutheran churches will host Sunday school registration and catechism orientation. Sign-up will be at 9:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran and 11:30 a.m. at St. John’s.
First Lutheran Church
plans annual carnival
All are invited to First Lutheran Church’s Carnival from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 9. The carnival will be held in the church’s new parking lot. There will be free games, magicians, special music, face painting, Moon Walk, food and more.
St. Pius V to celebrate annual Fall Festival
St. Pius V parish in Cannon Falls will sponsor its annual Fall Festival beginning Sept. 15. A Christian concert featuring the group Steady Reign from Faribault, Minn., will perform from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Events continue from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 16. The day begins with a polka mass at 10 a.m. with the Wendinger Travel Band. A roast beef dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Donations for the dinner at $7 for adults, $4 children ages 4-12 and free for children under 3.
Wendinger Band will perform from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Other activities include bingo, country store, games and a silent auction. Everyone is invited to attend.
The church is located at 410 Colville St. W., Cannon Falls.
