Red Wing native Greg Schmotzer of Hastings captured first place in the St. Paul Winter Carnival multi-block ice carving competition for the fifth year in a row. Sponsored by Treasure Island Resort & Casino, where he and helper Tom Klug both work, he worked from Thursday morning to Saturday morning creating a sculpture of a mountain lion on a rock looking down at two bighorn sheep butting heads.
