For news organizations, the day we advance clocks ahead one hour also signals the start of Sunshine Week, a national initiative to promote a dialogue about the importance of open government and freedom of information.
This year, we invite you to shine a light on open, transparent government right here at home. You are fortunate to know that every one of your local, state and federal elected representatives has sworn to uphold the U.S. Constitution, and they have said they welcome your calls.
So call them. Ask questions. Get involved.
Sunshine Week is about the public’s right to know what its government is doing, and why. When people have access to information, they can use it to make their lives better and their communities stronger.
Spring forward. Spring into action. Commit to shining light on your democracy this spring.
