The Chapel Choir from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., will present a concert at 7 p.m. Friday March 15 at First Lutheran Church, 100 Peace Ridge, Lake City.
Created to enrich the music of Concordia’s morning chapel services, the 90-voice ensemble now performs in concert and tours annually. The choir features men and women in their sophomore, junior or senior years.
The Lake City concert will feature Psalms settings from several centuries, a Lenten work by Johannes Brahms, a set of pieces by Minnesota-based composers and several folk songs and spirituals featuring student soloists. One portion of the program will be a musical journey from the seasons of Advent to Easter and will include audience participation.
The Chapel Choir is under the direction of new conductor Michael Culloton. For the previous eight years, Culloton was the artistic director of the Choral Arts Ensemble and Honors Choirs, two community organizations based in Rochester. He also was a choral director at Winona Senior High School and assistant conductor of the National Lutheran Choir. He also served a one-year sabbatical replacement in the choral program at Luther College.
