To the Editor:

Women and girls wanting to make a difference in their community should join Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build at its community kick-off event, “Power of the Purse,” Sunday March 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical in Red Wing.

The event will feature a live auction with purses and bags created by local female artists and students, plus a silent auction with a wonderful selection of creative items, services and entertainment. More than a dozen women owned businesses will offer a truly unique shopping experience. The Goodhue County Historical Society is creating a display of purses and handbags from past decades.

Proceeds from the event will support the women-powered building project in Red Wing. The mission of Women Build is to nurture, recruit and train women to build simple, decent, healthy and affordable houses.

The Power of the Purse is free and open to the public.
