Editor’s note: This is the fifth and final of story about the 2012 Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce award-winners.

After 12 years of business in Red Wing, Body Kneads Massage and Wellness Center added a location at Deer Crest to provide services to senior home residents and other community members.

What makes the Deer Crest site unique to the main downtown office is that the new location is handicap accessible and located in a different environment.

“When they offered for us to come in and fill that space, we were very excited about it,” said Body Kneads owner Dawn Bennett. “It was super exciting because we were able to expand our offering to a group of people who really need it.”

People who have lost their spouses feel a huge loss and, even though they may be living in a community, they are not touched often, Bennett said.

The new location offers clients a similar selection of services that their main location offers, said LaVergne Dickerson, a longtime receptionist with Body Kneads.

Downtown, Body Kneads offers five types of massages, five types of bodywork and other services ranging from homeopath to ear candling. After meeting with a therapist and discussing needs and expectations, a client can choose services and schedule them.

Bennett said that while it was a big shift to managing two sites, this will give her and her staff of therapists a way to connect with clients they may not have had a chance to otherwise.

In the past year, Body Kneads also connected with other area businesses including Salon with a Twist. This partnership allows wedding party members, for example, to come in and get their hair and nails done and relax with a massage in between. Bennett said partnering with local businesses to provide clients services in a new way is rewarding.

Body Kneads was named service business of the year by the Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce.
