Boys Basketball: Z-M ends regular season with win over Goodhue

Zumbrota-Mazeppa and Goodhue wrapped up the regular season Saturday as the Cougars defeated the Wildcats 48-43 in Zumbrota.

Lucas Ziemba finished with 18 points, three rebounds, a block and a steal to lead Z-M (13-11, 9-3 HVL Blue). Kevin Niebuhr added 14 points, 10 rebounds and four steals and Nathaniel Rauen had seven points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. The Cougars had 10 steals in the victory.

Goodhue (11-14, 4-8 HVL Blue) was led by Riley Bollum with 14 points while Tyler Schumacher provided nine points and eight rebounds. Zach Hinsch had seven points and five rebounds while Tyson Dicke contributed seven points, seven rebounds and two steals. The Wildcats turned the ball over 15 times in the loss.

Neither team shot well, as Z-M made 40 percent from the field and Goodhue knocked down 39 percent of its shots.

The third-seeded Wildcats will begin the Section 1A West Subsection playoffs Thursday when they host sixth-seeded Bethany Academy. Seeding for the Section 1AA playoffs will take place Sunday.
