A 25-year-old man was seriously injured early Wednesday morning after a vehicle that had been reported stolen crashed into some trees, Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Cody Hoyer, Kasson, Minn., was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing with incapacitating injuries after a 2013 Chevrolet pick-up he was driving crashed on Mount Hill Road in Welch Township.

Todd Zemke, 293rd Street, Featherstone Township, reported the pick-up missing at 3:30 a.m. He told deputies that he woke up and he saw the light on in his detached garage and the garage door open. The pick-up, which had been parked just outside the garage, was missing.

Using the pick-up’s OnStar system, deputies tracked the vehicle to a residence on Mount Hill Road. As officers were turning into the driveway leading to the residence, they met the pick-up. They followed the vehicle west on Mount Hill Road before it left the road and crashed into some trees.

Sheriff spokeswoman Kris Weiss said Hoyer is a suspect in the stolen vehicle case but has not been formally charged.
