World Day of Prayer is Friday March 1. The theme is “I was a Stranger and You Welcomed Me.”

Church United Women of Red Wing will observe it with a public service at 9:30 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church. Barbara vonHaaren will speak about a Christian response to struggles and ways to welcome the stranger.

Cannon Falls area women will meet at 1 p.m. at Vasa Lutheran Church and its Lutheran Center. Offering will be split between Good Samaritan Fund and World Day of Prayer USA.

World Day of Prayer is an ecumenical movement of Christian women from more than 170 nations and many traditions who observe a common day of prayer each year on the first Friday of March. World Day of Prayer was founded on the idea that prayer and action are inseparable in the service of God’s kingdom.

Services begin at sunrise in the Pacific and follow the sun across the globe on the day of celebration. Each year a different country’s World Day of Prayer committee serves as the writers of the worship service.
