Second-seeded Mankato West ended Red Wing’s season with a 6-3 victory Thursday in Mankato during the second round of the Section 1A playoffs.
The 15th-ranked Scarlets (21-5) scored four goals in the second period to break open a 1-1 tie heading into the first intermission.
The seventh-seeded Wingers outshot Mankato West 27-23 but went 0-for-4 on the power play.
Michael Bigelbach had a goal and an assist to lead Red Wing.
Derek Frentz, who finished with four goals and an assist, put the Scarlets up 1-0 at 8 minutes, 28 seconds of the first period. Bigelbach responded with a goal of his own at the 13:26 mark with an assist to Jack Gorman.
In the second period, Nick Campbell and Frentz each scored twice to give Mankato West a 5-1 lead into the second intermission. Campbell had two goals and three assists for the Scarlets.
Mitch Ramstad pulled the Wingers within 5-2 on a goal 5:35 into the third period but Frentz put the game away with a power-play goal at 16:06. Ryan Rehder added the final tally for Red Wing at 16:48 with assists to Alex Rezansoff and Dylan Goggin.
The Wingers finished the season with a 5-20-2 record.
