Cannon Falls held La Crescent to 24 percent shooting during Tuesday’s 49-35 victory in La Crescent.
The Bombers led 25-19 at halftime and forced 13 turnovers.
“It’s probably the most intensity we’ve had on defense in a little while,” Cannon Falls head coach Josh Davisson said. “The defensive intensity was nice to see back in our game. It was their senior night and they came out with a lot of energy and I thought we did a good job of matching that. It was a good game for us.”
Brock Peterson had 17 points to lead the Bombers (15-10) and Jordan Lundell provided 13 points, five rebounds and four steals. Noah Callister had six points, 11 rebounds and three steals and in the last couple weeks his physicality has turned into an asset for Cannon Falls.
“The last little while now, he’s really kind of taken over and played like a senior that wants to keep extending the season,” Davisson said. “He’s really got a nose for the ball and it’s a key for our success that he’s taken charge of the glass.”
The Lancers were led by Zack Melbostad with 23 points and 16 rebounds. No other La Crescent player scored more than four points.
“That Melbostad kid is quite the athlete,” Davisson said. “He had to earn every point he got.”
The Bombers will travel to face Kasson-Mantorville Feb. 28 and Section 2AA seeding will take place Jan. 27. Section 2AA play begins March 4.
