Boys Basketball: Lake City wins sixth straight game

Lake City had four players score in double figures and the Tigers dominated after halftime in a 72-45 victory on the road against Pine Island.

Lake City had four players score in double figures and the Tigers dominated after halftime in a 72-45 victory on the road against Pine Island.

Jake Griebenow and Ben Schramski each scored 14 points to lead Lake City (19-3, 11-1 HVL Blue). Griebenow also had three steals and Schramski made three 3-pointers. Coleman Sweeney contributed 12 points and five steals while Reid Lundell added 11 points in the win.

The Tigers led 39-28 at halftime but used an 18-2 run at the beginning of the second half to put the game out of reach. The Panthers (7-15, 5-7 HVL Blue) turned the ball over 19 times and Lake City held a 26-11 advantage in points off turnovers Monday. The Tigers had 14 steals and a 37-30 rebounding edge.

Alex Traut finished with 11 points and eight rebounds for Pine Island and Ben Warneke scored 10 points. The Panthers shot 18-for-52 from the field and 5 of 9 from the free-throw line.

Lake City will travel to face seventh-ranked (2A) Byron Tuesday in a preview of the Hiawatha Valley League championship game Saturday in Lake City.
