The Goodhue girls basketball team clinched a share of the Hiawatha Valley League Blue Division on Saturday with a 60-32 home victory over Zumbrota-Mazeppa.

The Wildcats share the HVL Blue title with Pine Island after going 10-2 in the conference and 21-5 overall. Due to Pine Island’s 2-0 mark against Goodhue, the Panthers will play in the HVL championship game Monday against Hayfield.

Mikayla Miller had game highs in points (33) and rebounds (17) for the Wildcats, while Mikayla Tipcke had six assists. Shelby Hinsch had six points, and Ashlyn Stecklein chipped in with five.

“She did a good job of seeing the floor,” Goodhue head coach Josh Wieme said of Tipcke. “We had nine players score and we had everyone else chip in a little bit besides Miller’s big number.”

Pacing the Cougars (9-14, 5-7 HVL Blue) was Laura Brunner, who finished with 14 points. Z-M’s offense struggled in the second half, scoring just 12 points in the final 18 minutes.

The Wildcats earned the No. 2 seed in the Section 1A-West playoffs and will face No. 7 Randolph Thursday at home. The Cougars will find out their playoff fate on Sunday when Section 1AA seeds are announced.
