Tied 30-30 with one match to go, Josh Dahling put Goodhue into the Section 1A semifinals with a pinfall victory as the Wildcats defeated Lake City 36-30 Thursday in Goodhue. Dahling stuck the Tigers’ Andrew Denzer in 3 minutes, 27 seconds.
With the win, fourth-seeded Goodhue faces top seed Chatfield in the section semifinals at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester.
No. 5-seeded Lake City opened the dual with a 9-0 lead with a decision by Kevin McGinley and a pinfall by Carston Dammann at 106 and 113 pounds, respectively. Goodhue responded with 18 straight points, with Joel Gadient (120 pounds) and Matthew Lexvold (126) taking pinfall victories.
The Tigers retook the lead, 21-18, thanks to decisions from Ryan Hanson and Derek Bremer and a pinfall victory from Shane Siewert at 152 pounds, but the Wildcats went up 30-21 as Jacob Blattner and Charles Dahling won by pin at 170 and 182, respectively.
Thanks to a pinfall from Joel Gay at 195 and a 11-5 decision from Will Balow, Lake City tied the match at 30-30 before Josh Dahling clinched the victory for Goodhue.
Prior to the Tigers/Wildcats matchup, Lake City defeated 12th-seeded Hayfield 60-20 in the first round. Results were unavailable on Thursday.
