Going up 20-3 after five matches, No. 2-seeded Cannon Falls/Randolph clinched a spot in the Section 1AA semifinals with a 47-27 victory over Stewartville Thursday in Cannon Falls.
The Bombers will face No. 6 seed Byron at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester. The Bears advanced after upsetting third-seeded Plainview-Elgin-Millville 34-33.
Paul Fitterer opened Thursday’s dual against Stewartville with a pinfall in 59 seconds at 106 pounds. Ryan Epps followed up with a pinfall at 113 pounds in 3:44. Keston Lopez and Connor Rohr won at 126 and 132 pounds, respectively, with Rohr securing a 19-4 technical fall.
Up 20-9, Roman Wundrow (145 pounds), Derek Johnson (160) and Justin Miest (170) padded Cannon Falls/Randolph’s lead with pinfall victories. Then at 220, Clay Broze continued his undefeated season with a pinfall in 56 seconds.
In the first round of the 1AA tournament, Stewartville advanced with a 71-10 victory over Waseca.
