GOODHUE – Hosting a triangular Friday, the Goodhue wrestling team went 1-1, with a 62-13 victory over La Crescent and a 42-29 loss to Stewartville.
Opening the meet against La Crescent, Bailee O’Reilly and Matthew Lexvold each won via major decision at 106 and 126 pounds, respectively, for Goodhue. Then at 132, Kyle Drehmel pinned Jack McCormick in 1 minute, 41 seconds for a 20-6 Wildcats lead. The Lancers won the next two matches before Mitchell Breuer put Goodhue back in the win column with a pinfall in 3:41 over Cole Flannery.
The Wildcats won the next five matches via forfeit before Josh Dahling closed out the match at 285 pounds with a pin in 31 seconds.
Against Stewartville, Goodhue looked ready for another win after O’Reilly and Joel Gadient both won by technical fall at 106 and 113 pounds, respectively.
Trailing 14-3 after four matches, the Tigers scored three consecutive pinfalls by Hunter Johnson (132 pounds), Brady Keefe (138) and Brett Stolarzyk (145). Mitchell Breuer halted Stewartville’s momentum with a 4-3 decision at 152 pounds, but the Tigers responded with 21 straight points. In that run, Jamie Gehling won via pinfall for Stewartville, and the Wildcats forfeited two matches. Goodhue closed out the match strong again with two straight pins from Ryan Tipcke and Dahling at 220 and 285, respectively.
The Wildcats will wrestle in the Section 1A tournament, starting on Thursday. Section seedings will be determined on Monday.
