Red Wing has been a welcoming and enriching city to come home to in my retirement three years ago! I enjoy living in Red Wing. Increasingly, I am becoming more aware of all of the energy and talent of the folks who make this town what it is and enable all of us to have a good life.
An example of this energy and talent is the award given recently to the 2012 Red Wing Neighbor as described in last week's Eagle. I add my congratulations to the winner.
In order for this good life to continue, I have a urgent recommendation. I suggest that each community group (whatever its purpose) create an advocacy activity whose focus is to lobby against the development of silica sand mining in Red Wing and Goodhue County.
Red Wing/Goodhue County needs to unite in every way possible to keep silica sand mining from destroying that which has been built up and keep us not only a scenic but a safe and healthy city/county — a destination in which to live a good life.
