Church briefs in the Feb. 9 R-EActivities and events planned at Red Wing area churches.
Toll Free group to perform
The Toll Free Handbell Ensemble will perform at 1 p.m. Sunday Feb. 17 at First Lutheran Church. The foursome tackles the challenge of playing 61 handbells with only eight hands.
After exploring much of the published handbell music repertoire, the members began to create arrangements and design concerts about interesting and unusual themes.
This concert will give a nod to the music from Oscar-nominated and Oscar-winnning movies from the 1930s to present. Toll Free will play standards including “Lullaby of Broadway,” “The Entertainer” and “Moon River” as well as contemporary pieces such as “Jai Ho.”
Toll Free often incorporates other musicians. This concert will feature Andy Schultz on flute and percussion, Amanda Svendset on piano and percussion, Mark Jeddeloh on percussion and Brian Jeddeloh as baritone soloist, who also plays guitar.
